DENTAL HYGIENE e-LEARNING PORTFOLIO
about

My name is Rachel Matthews. I have been an aspiring dental hygienist since I started high school back in 2010. I experienced a lot of dental problems during my childhood, which led me to become very passionate about teeth. Throughout the years, I started to realize the importance of oral health and its impact on overall health. Due to this, I not only became passionate about teeth itself, but oral health as well. I often preach "oral health = overall health" and has persuaded me to believe that the dental hygiene field is where I belong. I have graduated from the Dental Hygiene Program at Niagara College in October 2017, and currently am a Registered Dental Hygienist!

The purpose of my e-learning portfolio is to reflect on my dental hygiene educational journey. This includes: my previous education that guided me into the Dental Hygiene Program, strengths and weaknesses in the courses I have completed, and also my involvement both on campus and in the community. Three courses in which I found challenging and will be exploring in my portfolio are: Periodontology, Pharmacology, and Oral Pathology. Also, refreshers can be found on some essential topics in the dental hygiene profession, such as Root Morphology. Lastly, the continuing education that I plan to obtain in my dental hygiene future is also included.
